Free dental practice software for a small clinic: the first week

A one to three dentist clinic needs a shared schedule, a record on the patient, and a way to bring the old list in. A chain suite can wait.

Start from the week in front of you

A small clinic usually runs on a spreadsheet, a chat app, and memory. The first question is whether the front desk and the dentist can see the same day, and whether a returning patient opens on one record.

Free software is useful when it is a real workspace: your login, your patients, and an export when you want a copy. A tour that hides the record or blocks export is only a slideshow.

Four jobs for week one

  1. A chair calendar for today and the days ahead.
  2. A short clinical note on that patient.
  3. An invoice for the visit.
  4. A CSV import of the patients you will actually see, and an export back out.

Inventory, campaigns and a shared inbox matter after the book is full. If the current source of truth is a sheet, read how a spreadsheet compares before you move everything. A solo dentist can follow what to set up first.

Stay on the free plan while it still fits

Stay when one or two people can run the day without emailing a file around, and you can still export the list. Move up when you hit the patient or user ceiling, not because a page promised every module on day one.

Do not expect reminders to work if the phone numbers are wrong. Enter the next two weeks of appointments first. The rest of the archive can follow in batches.
